I know I am late about this but ?hear me out.
The 6-hours downtime was pure ?agony to me and made me think that you simply can’t put all your eggs in a single company that is trying to dominate the market.
As a business, all my ads were down together when Fb, IG and Whatsapp decided to take a ?dive underwater and guess what?
Facebook is not going to compensate for my loss yet they still charge my ad spend when they came back online.
That’s some fair business trade huh?
?
And that’s not all?
I was “smart” enough to integrate my Whatsapp business account into the Facebook ad. Thinking to make communication easier with the customers. And boy was I wrong…
Not just that my ads were down, I was losing new business opportunities. That’s for sure.
I was missing in action to the customers I was ?communicating to at that moment too. Although that might not be a big issue because customers WhatsApp was down too.
But the point is,
I was in a vulnerable situation when my communication channels were down.
My emotion too was on a ?roller coaster ride during the downtime.
What do I mean?
I was shocked when I realized Fb, IG and Whatsapp were down. Then, I was somehow relieved because I can take some time off from my mobile and laptop.
But when 30 minutes into the downtime and the 3 channels were still not back online, I became ?anxious and swiping among Fb, IG and Whatsapp.
“What’s happening to my ads? How many opportunities am I losing? Will those customers that I was talking to change their mind?”
Once I realized that they are not coming back online soon, I was upset and angry
- Because Fb is not doing their job
2. Why was I so dumb to tie everything to the same company?
My life was like the Pixar movie, Inside Out during that time.
Maybe some of you will think that I was exaggerating.
But I kid you not.
If you ?ask other small business owners like me who depend on Fb, IG and Whatsapp for their business growth, they probably will have an emotional ride like me.
But Facebook will never understand how the rest of the small business owners and I feel.
That’s the perk of being a giant.
You get away even when you screw up.
Imagine when you screw up as a small business owner.
Your customers are going to chase after you like ?zombies saw a juicy brain.?
You get swallow whole…
What I want to point out is,???
Diversify your communication channels.
Spread your presence on your website, Youtube, Google, emails, Tik Tok and other viable channels.
